How Pedro Salgado hand draws a scientific illustration

In order to produce a scientifically-accurate illustration, Pedro takes his time to study the fish. He says it is the most time-consuming part of the entire process and the final art is actually the shortest bit.

He is very methodical with his work and when asked if he ever makes a mistake, he said it barely happens. At the slightest doubt he does a trial in a scrap paper.

The workshop he works in proves his experience. Hundreds and hundreds of tools, pencils, brushes, paper, pictures and research books.

Natural light floods the room with light and the soothing chirping of birds makes it serene. A perfect environment for concentration.
